The Birth of John the Baptist

Luke 1: 5-25, 57-66
Lesson Content
1. Zacharias, a priest and Elisabeth his wife had no children (Lk.1:5,7).
2. Both were well -stricken in years, godly, righteous before God and blameless (Lk.1:6,7).
3. Gabriel, the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “... thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John” (Lk.1:13,19).
4. Zacharias did not believe the word of God and said, “... I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years”. From that day onwards he became dumb (Lk.1:18,20).
5. As the angel foretold, a child was born to Elisabeth. Zacharias being dumb, wrote on a writing table that the child should be called John (Lk.1:57,63).
6. Immediately his mouth was opened. He began to speak and praise God for giving him a son, according to his desire (Lk.1:64).
Moral
We should not doubt the word of God.
