The Infant Jesus Taken to Egypt

Matthew 2:13-23
Lesson Content
1. The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him” (Matt.2:13).
2. Joseph rose in the night, took the young child and his mother, went to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod (Matt.2:14,15).
3. When Herod saw that he was mocked by the wise men, he was very angry. According to the time he had diligently inquired of them, he slew all the male children in Bethlehem and in all its coast, from two years old and under (Matt.2:16).
4. After the death of Herod, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him to take the young child and His mother and go into the land of Israel, and Joseph did accordingly (Matt.2:19-21).
5. When he heard that Archelaus, the son of Herod reigned in his father’s place, he was afraid to go there (Matt.2:22).
6. Being warned of God in a dream again, he ca me and dwelt in the city of Nazareth. Therefore Jesus is called a Nazarene (Matt.2:22,23).
Moral
God has kept His angels to preserve us, the little children who fear Him, from every kind of danger.
