Standard 1 · Lesson 3

Adam and Eve Lose Eden

Reading Portion

Gen. ch. 3

Lesson Content

1. God created man in His own image and after His likeness. He gave Eve as a help meet for him and placed them in the garden of Eden (Gen.1:26,27; 2:8, 21-23).

2. This garden was full of beautiful trees. God said that they could eat the fruits of all the trees as they liked. But He commanded them not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil which was in the midst of the garden (Gen.2:16,17).

3. Both of them lived happily. They were clothed with glory. There they had the privilege of seeing God and speaking to Him.

4. Satan tempted Eve to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gen.3:4,5).

5. Eve saw the tree to be good for food, pleasant to the eyes and a tree to be desired to make one wise. She ate the fruit and gave it to her husband also. He also ate it (Gen.3:6).

6. The eyes of them both were opened. The glory which was their garment departed from them. They realized that they were naked and they sewed fig leaves together and made a dress for themselves (Gen.3:7).

7. When they heard the voice of God walking i n the garden in the cool of the day, they feared and hid themselves among the trees (Gen.3:8).

8. The Lord God called Adam and said, “Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?” Adam replied that Eve gave him of the tree and he ate (Gen.3:11,12).

9. God drove them both out of the garden for not obeying His commandment (Gen.3:23,24).
