Standard 10 · Lesson 17
Divine Healing (Part II)
Lesson Content
I Sometimes healing may be delayed. On such occasions, we should remember that God has a set time for healing and that until that time those who are sick are expected to do certain things. They are:
1. Build up faith in God because God demands steadfast faith to perform a definite miracle or before He steps in to begin the work of healing (Mk.9:17-23; Matt.9:27- 30).
2. Keep praising God continually for the healing un til He accomplishes what He has promised (Rom.4:20,21).
3. Do not be content or discouraged with your state but hold on to the promises of God and claim divine healing (Heb.6:15).
4. Add patience and diligence to preserve your faith lest you doubt His promise (Heb.6:11,12). II Satan may bring certain subtle deceptions to stop people from claiming Divine Healing.
1. Some say that they come under the category of saints who “were tortured not accepting deliverance” (Heb.11:35-38). But the Scripture portion they quote reveals very clearly that such saints were not afflicted by sickness but were tortured by enemies.
2. Some say, “Jesus died young: why not I?” It is true that Jesus died young but He did not die of sickness. He was put to death by cruel men. Moreover, the purpose of the death of Jesus was the redemption of
mankind, but we, on the other hand, are not going to redeem anyone from sin by a premature death. Therefore, we can in no way argue that we want to die young.
3. Some say, “It is better to die in sickness than to live and backslide like king Hezekiah”. This is false logic. Though God healed Hezekiah by His mercy, he did not mend his ways to do that which was right in the sight of God. So when we claim Divine Healing we should sincerely repent and decide to live the rest of our life to the glory of God.
4. Some say, “I prefer to remain sick, because through my sickness I am being sanctified”. Sickness does not come from God. It comes from Satan. So it does not sanctify us. The sacrifice of Jesus is sufficient to sanctify us and to bring us to perfection and therefore we do not need Satan’s help to fall sick that we may live close to Jesus and be partakers of His holiness. Whether we are sick or healthy we are called t o sanctify ourselves and to build up ourselves on our most holy faith. III Some good reasons why we should claim Divine Healing:
1. Jesus came to take away our sins and sicknesses by bearing them upon Himself (Matt.8:16,17; I Pet.2:24).
2. Sickness is listed among the curses of the law in Deuteronomy ch.28. But Jesus has delivered us from all curses, being made a curse for us (Gal.3:13).
3. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil (I Jn.3:8). The works of the devil include sickness and unnatural death.
4. If the power of God can raise the dead from the grave and transform the living saints, how much more can the same power heal us today! (Rom.8:11).
5. Jesus healed ALL who came to Him without any exception. He never sent anyone away saying, “You are too hard a case to heal” (Matt.12:15; Lk.6:19; Acts 10:38). He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
6. Healing is the will of God (Matt.8:2,3; III Jn.2).
7. We are asked to hold fast the promises of God and healing is one of God’s promises for us (Heb.6:11,12; Exo.15:26; 23:25).
8. Each of us is called to fulfil a particular ministry and premature death caused by sickness will cut short our ministry or prevent us from running our race to the end (Col.4:17; II Tim.4:7).
9. There wil l be no sickness either during the Millennial Reign or in heaven. This shows that God wants us to be free from sickness in this world too.
Moral
Divine Healing is not just crumbs from the table but children’s bread. We should therefore study the truth o f Divine Healing diligently and build up our faith to claim healing.
Memory Verse
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”
I Peter 2:24; Romans 8:11
