Peter Goes a Fishing

Luke 5:1-11

Lesson Content

1. A great multitude of people pressed upon Jesus to hear the Word of God, by the lake of Gennesaret (Lk.5:1).

2. Jesus entered into Simon’s ship, which was standing by the lake and taught the people (Lk.5:2,3).

3. After speaking, Jesus told Simon: "Launch out into the deep and let d own your nets for a draught" (Lk.5:4).

4. Simon said, “... we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net” and he did so (Lk.5:5).

5. Then they inclosed so great a multitude of fishes that the net b roke (Lk.5:6).

6. They beckoned those in the other ships to come and help them (Lk.5:7).

7. Simon Peter was astonished at the draught of fishes, and fell down at Jesus’ knees saying, “Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord” (Lk.5:8,9).

8. Jesus t old Simon, “Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men” (Lk.5:10).

9. Simon Peter and his companions forsook their all and followed Jesus (Lk.5:10,11).

Moral

The Lord blesses us abundantly in return for even the little good that we may do.
