Isaac Offered as a Sacrifice

Lesson Content
1. Abraham and Sarah had no children for a very long time. According to God’s promise, Isaac was born when Abraham was hundred years old (Gen.21:5).
2. After this, God tempted Abraham (Gen.22:1).
3. God asked Abraham to offer Isaac as a burnt offering on one of the mountains in the land of Moriah (Gen.22:2).
4. Abraham set out in obedience, journeyed for three days and reached the place (Gen.22:3,4).
5. Abraham’s words of faith to his young men: “I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you” (Gen.22:5).
6. When Isaac enquired about the lamb for the burnt offering, Abraham replied that the Lord would provide it (Gen.22:7,8).
7. Abraham bound Isaac, laid him on the altar, and took the knife to slay him (Gen.22:9,10).
8. The angel of the Lord intervened and asked him not to kill his son (Gen.22:11,12).
9. A ram was sacrificed in the place of Isaac and the place was named ‘Jehovah-Jireh’ (Gen.22:13,14).
10. Jehovah-Jireh means ‘The Lord will provide’
Moral
Like Abraham we should love God above all other things and we should totally obey Him.
