Jacob’s Dream

Gen.28:10-22
Lesson Content
1. Jacob feared his brother Esau. According to his mother’s counsel he fled from Beersheba and went towards Haran (Gen.28:10). [Explain the earlier history in brief (Gen.27:1-45)].
2. As the sun set while he was on his way, he took of the stones of that place, put them for his pillows and lay down to sleep (Gen.28:11).
3. Then he s aw a dream. A ladder was set upon the earth, the top of which reached heaven. The angels of God were ascending and descending on it (Gen.28:12).
4. The Lord standing above it said that He was the God of his fathers. He gave Jacob the promises that He had given to Abraham and Isaac (Gen.28:13-15).
5. Jacob woke up from his sleep and said ‘Surely the Lord is in this place’. Then he took the stone he had put for his pillow, set it up for a pillar, poured oil upon it and called the name of that place ‘Bethel’ (Gen.28: 16-19).
6. ‘Bethel’ means ‘the house of God’.
Moral
When we are lonely, with no one to help us, God gives us His promises and comforts us.
