Standard 3 · Lesson 6

The Paschal Lamb

Reading Portion

Exo.12:1-11,21-37

Lesson Content

1. When the children of Israel were in bondage in Egypt, the firstborn of the Egyptians and the firstlings of their beasts were destroyed on a particular night.

2. This was the tenth plague sent upon Egypt. Before this incident took place, the same evening a specially chosen lamb was slain in every house of the Israelites and as commanded by the Lord the blood of the lamb was struck on the two side posts and on the upper door post of their houses (Exo.12:3,6,7).

3. When the destroyer came at midnight to slay the firstborn, he passed over the houses of the Israelites, seeing the blood of the slain paschal lamb struck on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses. After this incident Pharaoh let the Israelites go out of Egypt (Exo.12:21-37).

Moral

The Israelites were delivered from Egypt by the slaying of the paschal lamb. In the same way, by the sacrifice of Jesus, we are delivered from sin.

Memory Verse
