The Good Samaritan

Luke 10:30-37

Lesson Content

1. This incident was narrated by Jesus to show who our real neighbour is.

2. A man going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, fell among thieves. They stripped him of his clothes, wounded him and departed, leaving him half dead (Lk. 10:30).

3. First a priest came that way, saw him and passed by on the other side (Lk.10:31).

4. Then a Levite came, looked at him, and passed by on the other side (Lk.10:32).

5. Thirdly, a Samaritan came that way, who on seeing him was moved with compassion, went to him, bound up h is wounds, pouring in oil and wine, set him on his own beast, brought him to an inn, and took care of him (Lk.10:33,34).

6. On the morrow when he departed he took two pence and gave them to the host saying, “Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest m ore, when I come again, I will repay thee” (Lk.10:35).

7. By narrating this incident, Jesus made clear that he who showed mercy was the real neighbour (Lk.10:36,37).

Moral

Like the good Samaritan we should be compassionate towards those who are in trouble and help them in time of need.
