The Israelites and the Golden Calf

Exo. ch.32
Lesson Content
1. While there was a delay in Moses’ return from the mount, the people asked Aaron to make gods to go before them (Exo. 32:1).
2. Aaron asked for and obtained the golden earrings of the people, and made a molten calf out of them. The people acknowledged them as gods (Exo.32:2-4).
3. They observed the feast and worshipped the golden calf (Exo.32:5,6,8).
4. The Lord informed Moses of what the people had done (Exo.32:7,8).
5. The words that the Lord told Moses when He was angry with the people because of this and wanted to destroy them (Exo.32:9,10).
6. Moses’ intercession (Exo.32:11-13).
7. Moses came down from the mount and saw the golden calf and the dancing (Exo.32:19).
8. Moses’ reactions (Exo.32:19,20).
9. He rebuked Aaron (Exo.32:21).
10. Aaron’s reply (Exo.32:22-24).
11. Moses’ asking the people, “Who is on the Lord’s side” and the response of the sons of Levi (Exo.32:26).
12. The sons of Levi slew the people and three thousand men died (Exo. 32:27,28).
13. Moses’ plea thereafter and the Lord’s answer (Exo.32:31-34).
14. The Lord plagued the people for making the calf (Exo.32:35).
Moral
They that reject the living God and worship idols are worthy of the wrath of God.
