Joshua Captures the City of Ai

Josh. 8:1-29

Lesson Content

1. After Achan was killed, the Lord encouraged Joshua and counselled him (Josh.8:1,2).

2. Joshua chose thirty thousand mighty men of valour, informed them of the plan to be followed and sent them by night. They lay in ambush on the west side of Ai, between Bethel and Ai (Josh.8:3-9).

3. Early in the morning, Joshua and the men of war with him went and pitched on the north side of Ai. He set about five thousand men to lie in ambush between Bethel and Ai (Josh.8:10-12).

4. When the men of Ai came to fight with the Israelites, Joshua and his men followed the method they had already planned and captured Ai (Josh.8:13-26).

5. The Israelites took the cattle and the spoil of the city for themselves. Joshua burnt Ai and hanged the king of Ai on a tree (Josh.8:27-29).

Moral

The Lord will fight the battle for us and give us the victory if we keep His commandments diligently.
