Joshua Stopped the Sun and the Moon

Lesson Content
1. Great fear gripped Adonizedek, king of Jerusalem, when he heard of what the Israelites had done to Jericho and Ai and how the Gibeonites had made peace with Israel (Josh. 10:1,2).
2. He sought the hel p of four other Amorite kings and went to fight against the Gibeonites for the peace treaty which they had made with the Israelites (Josh.10:3-5).
3. The Gibeonites sent word to Joshua to come and help them (Josh.10:6).
4. Joshua proceeded for the battle with all the people of war and all the mighty men of valour (Josh.10:7).
5. The Lord’s words of encouragement and promise to Joshua (Josh.10:8).
6. The Amorites were defeated. They fled before Israel, who pursued them and slew many of them. The Lord sent h ailstones and many more of the Amorites died (Josh.10:9-11).
7. Joshua spoke to the Lord and commanded the sun and the moon saying, “Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou Moon, in the valley of Ajalon”. The sun stood still in the midst of heaven for about a whole day and the moon stayed until the Israelites destroyed the enemies and took complete victory over them (Josh.10:12-15).
Moral
We may be ordinary frail human beings. Nevertheless, the Lord will hearken to our voice and do supernatural things for us if we remain in the centre of His will.
