The Child Samuel

Lesson Content

1. A man called Elkanah lived with his family in t he city of Ramathaim - zophim in Palestine. He had two wives called Hannah and Peninnah. Peninnah had children but Hannah had no children (I Sam.1:1,2).

2. Their yearly journey to Shiloh to worship the Lord and to offer sacrifices to Him (I Sam.1:3).

3. Peni nnah provoked Hannah because Hannah had no children. Then Elkanah comforted her (I Sam.1:6-8).

4. Hannah was in bitterness of soul, prayed unto the Lord and wept sore and made a vow (I Sam. 1:10,11).

5. Eli, the priest mistook her to be drunken, but later understood her sorrowful spirit and blessed her (I Sam.1:12-18).

6. The birth of the child Samuel. Hannah fulfilled her vow (I Sam.1:20-28).

7. The child Samuel grew in the temple of the Lord (I Sam.2:18; 3:1).

8. God called Samuel by name and spoke to him (I Sam.3:4-14).

9. Samuel feared to tell Eli the vision, but later told him (I Sam.3:15-18).

10. Samuel grew and the Lord was with him and all Israel knew that he was established to be a prophet of the Lord (I Sam.3:19,20).

Moral

God speaks to His children who fear Him. If we fear God, then we can also hear the voice of God, even as the child Samuel heard.

Memory Verse

“I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.”
