Samuel Anoints Saul as King

I Sam. 8; 9:1-21

Lesson Content

1. The children of Israel asked Samuel for a k ing to rule over them (I Sam.8:4,5).

2. This displeased Samuel. Therefore he prayed and God answered (I Sam.8:6-9).

3. Though Samuel told the people all the words of the Lord and the manner of the king who should rule over them, they were adamant (I Sam.8:10-20).

4. Saul was the son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin (I Sam.9:1,2).

5. He went in search of his father’s lost asses (I Sam.9:3).

6. The Lord foretold Samuel regarding Saul (I Sam.9:15,16).

7. When Samuel met Saul, he told Saul that all the desire of Israel was upon him (I Sam.9:20).

8. Saul’s humility (I Sam.9:21).

9. Samuel anointed Saul (I Sam.10:1).

Moral

When God exalted Saul, he realized his unworthiness and humbled himself. Similarly, when God exalts us, we must learn to be humble.

“But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”
