Reading Portion
I Sam.15:3,9,26,35; 16:1-14,18

1. God commanded Saul to wholly destroy the Amalekites. But he spared Agag, the king and the best of the sheep, and of th e oxen, and of the fatlings and the lambs and all that was good. 3. The Lord asked Samuel to anoint one of the sons of Jesse as king (I Sam.16:1-3).
4. Samuel went to Bethlehem and invited Jesse and his sons to the sacrifice (I Sam.16:4,5).
5. Seven sons of Jesse passed before Samuel, but the Lord did not choose any of them (I Sam.16:6-10).
6. David, the youngest son was brought and anointed as king (I Sam.16:11-13).
7. The appearance and capabilities of David (I Sam.16:12,18).
8. Even though David was anointed king, he received the kingdom only after the death of Saul.
Moral
Though David was the youngest in the family and was looking after the sheep, the Lord chose him as king. The Lord can exalt us though we may be in a low state.
Memory Verse
“The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he hath set the world upon them.”
I Samuel 2:7,8
