Lesson Content

1. Jesus went with His disciples over the brook Cedron, where there was a garden (Jn.18:1).

2. Judas also knew the place, for Jesus had often resorted there with His disciples (Jn.18:2).

3. Judas came there with a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees (Jn.18:3).

4. The conversation between Jesus and the officers (Jn.18:4-9).

5. Peter smote with his sword, cutting off the right ear of Malchus, the high priest’s servant (Jn.18:10).

6. Jesus’ advice to Peter (Jn.18:11; Matt.26:52).

7. Jesus touched the ear of Malchus and healed him (Lk.22:51).

8. Jesus had preached that one should love his enemies (Matt. 5:43-46). This was an incident to prove that Jesus practised what He preached.

Moral

If we are persecuted or falsely accused by others, we should not harm them, but do good to them as Jesus did and reveal His love.

Memory Verse

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”

Matthew 5:44, 45
