Peter Denies Jesus

Lesson Content

1. When Jesus and His disciples went out into the mount of Olives, He conversed with them concerning what was to happen to Him (Matt.26:30-32).

2. Jesus warned Peter (Lk.22:31,32).

3. Peter’s firm declaration (Matt.26:33; Lk.22:33).

4. Jesus told him that he would deny Him thrice (Matt.26:34).

5. Peter declared that he would never deny Him (Matt.26:35).

6. Peter sat in the palace premises and denied Jesus before a damsel (Matt.26:69,70).

7. When Peter was gone into the porch, he denied Jesus before another maid (Matt.26:71,72).

8. The third denial — the cock crew (Matt.26:73,74; Lk.22:60).

9. Jesus turned and looked upon Peter (Lk.22:61).

10. Peter remembered the w ords that Jesus had told him and went out and wept bitterly (Matt.26:75; Lk.22:61,62).

Moral

We cannot fulfil our determination relying on our own strength. What we need for this purpose is the grace of God. We can receive this grace by humbling ourselves and waiting in the presence of the Lord.
