Nabal and Abigail

I Sam.25:1-38

Lesson Content

1. While David was fleeing fro m Saul, he went to the wilderness of Paran (I Sam.25:1).

2. Nabal of Maon was shearing his sheep in Carmel (I Sam.25:2).

3. The qualities of Nabal and his wife Abigail (I Sam.25:3).

4. David sent ten young men to seek help from Nabal (I Sam.25:5-8).

5. Na bal’s reply — David proceeded for battle (I Sam.25:10-13).

6. Abigail heard the news about her husband’s behaviour towards David’s men (I Sam.25:14-17).

7. She sent some food to David (I Sam.25:18,19).

8. She rode upon an ass and met David on the way when he and his men were going for battle against Nabal, and pacified him (I Sam.25:20-35).

9. Nabal’s death (I Sam.25:36-38).

Moral

Nabal’s harsh words angered David, but Abigail pacified him with her soft words and saved her family from destruction. We should not use harsh words against others.
