The Reign of King David

Lesson Content
1. After the death of Saul, the men of Judah anointed David in Hebron, as king over the house of Judah (II Sam.2:3,4).
2. All the elders of Israel came to Hebron and anointed him king over Israel (II Sam.5:1-3).
3. David went to Jerusalem and captured the stronghold of Zion (II Sam.5:6-9).
4. David brought the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem (II Sam.6:1-3,14,15).
5. David’s desire to build the temple and the Lord’s reply. David gathered materials for building the temple (I Chron.28:2,3,6; 29:2-9).
6. When Absalom his son rose against him, he fled from Jerusalem; but God was with him, and brought him back (II Sam. 15:13-16; 19:10,14,15).
7. Satan moved David to number Israel and Judah. When David did so, the Lord was displeased and sent a pestilence which destroyed seventy thousand men (II Sam.24:1-16; I Chron.21:1).
8. David’s repentance and the sacrifice he offered — The plague stayed (II Sam.24:17-25).
9. David’s death (I Kgs.2:10,11).
Moral
David was a humble man who always depended on God and not on his own strength. He had a heart that longed to do the will of God. Likewise we should also desire to do the will of God at all times.
