Solomon Succeeds David as King

I Kgs.1: 5-50

Lesson Content

1. When David was very old, one of his sons Adonijah exalted himself saying that he would become king (I Kgs.1:1,5).

2. Adonijah held a feast and invited all his brethren and the men of Judah to the feast but Solomon was not invited (I Kgs.1:9,10).

3. As counselle d by Nathan, the prophet, Bathsheba reminded king David of his promise to make Solomon king after him (I Kgs.1:11-21).

4. David reiterated his promise to Bathsheba (IKgs.1:28-30).

5. As commanded by David, Solomon was caused to ride upon the king’s mule an d was taken to Gihon (I Kgs.1:32-38).

6. Zadok, the priest anointed Solomon at Gihon as king over Israel and Judah (I Kgs.1:33,35,39).

7. The people piped with pipes and rejoiced with great joy (I Kgs.1:40).

8. Adonijah and all the guests who were with hi m heard about it and fled (I Kgs.1:49,50).

Moral

When God chooses a person to fulfil a mission according to His divine plan, no one can frustrate it.
