St. Paul’s First Missionary Journey (Part I)

Acts 13:1-14, 42-52
Lesson Content
1. Barnabas and Saul were prophets and teachers in the church at An tioch, a city in the land of Syria (Acts 13:1).
2. They were separated for the work to which the Holy Ghost had called them (Acts 13:2,3).
3. They set out from Antioch to Seleucia and from there sailed to Cyprus (Acts 13:4).
4. They went to Salamis and pre ached the Word of God in the synagogues. John was there to assist them (Acts 13:5).
5. Their ministry at Paphos — Sergius Paulus, the deputy — His desire to hear the Word of God — Barjesus (Elymas) the sorceror who was with the deputy withstood Paul and Barnabas seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Paul filled with the Holy Ghost, rebuked him and he became blind — the deputy believed (Acts 13:6-12).
6. Then they left Paphos and came to Perga and here John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem (Acts 13:13).
7. From Perga they came to Antioch in Pisidia (Acts 13:14).
8. At Antioch, Paul preached a sermon in the synagogue on the sabbath day, at the request of the rulers of the synagogue. The Gentlies requested that these words be preached to them the next sabbath (Acts 13:14,42).
9. Many among the Jews believed. Paul and Barnabas persuaded them to continue in the grace of God (Acts 13:43).
10. The next sabbath day, almost the whole city came to hear the Word of God. The Jews filled with envy, s poke against the things spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming (Acts 13:44,45).
11. Paul and Barnabas indicated their determination to turn to the Gentiles (Acts 13:46,47).
12. The Gentiles were glad and many believed (Acts 13:48).
13. The Word of G od was preached throughout the region — the Jews persecuted Paul and Barnabas and expelled them out of their coasts — Paul and Barnabas came to Iconium. The disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost (Acts 13:49-52).
