Standard 7 · Lesson 20

Aquila and Priscilla

Reading Portion

Acts 18:1-3,18-26; Rom.16:3-5; I Cor.16:19

Lesson Content

1. Aquila was a Jew. His wife’s name was Priscilla. They lived in Corinth (A cts 18:1,2).

2. They were tentmakers by profession. Paul stayed with them in Corinth (Acts 18:3).

3. They accompanied him to Ephesus (Acts 18:18,19).

4. Apollos, the Jew — his attributes (Acts 18:24,25).

5. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him speak boldly in the synagogue, they took him unto them and expounded the way of God more perfectly (Acts 18:26). This shows that they were well versed in the Scriptures and in the apostolic doctrines.

6. Paul called them his helpers in Christ Jesus and praised the love that prompted them to lay down their own necks for his life (Rom.16:3,4). Paul and all the churches of the Gentiles were grateful to them (Rom.16:4). They helped the ministry by giving their house to be used for the assembling of the saints (I Cor.16:19; Rom.16:5). Through these we can know that they lived with godly love and zeal.

Moral

Like Aquila and Priscilla we too should love the Lord and labour towards the progress of His work. We should be well versed in the apostolic doctrines and teach them to others also.

Memory Verse

“So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

I Thessalonians 2:8; II Timothy 3:16,17
