Elijah on Mount Carmel

I Kgs.18:17-46
Lesson Content
1. Ahab met Elijah and asked him, “Art thou he that troubleth Israel?” (I Kgs.18:17).
2. Elijah’s reply (I Kgs.18:18).
3. Elijah asked Ahab to gather all Israel and the prophets of Baal and the prophets of the groves together unto mount Carmel (I Kgs.18:19).
4. Ahab did accordingly (I Kgs.18:20).
5. Elijah spoke to the people who halted between two opinions (I Kgs.18:21).
6. Elijah’s challenge (I Kgs.18:22-25).
7. After dressing a bullock and keeping it ready the prophets of Baal called on the name of Baal; they even cut themselves till blood gushed out but there was no answer (I Kgs.18:26-29).
8. Elijah repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down and with twelve stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord and made a trench about it (I Kgs.18:30-32).
9. The bullock was cut and all arrangements for the sacrifice was made and water was poured upon the sacrifice three times (I Kgs.18:33-35).
10. Elijah’s prayer (I Kgs.18:36,37).
11. The way in which God answered (I Kgs.18:38).
12. All the people acknowledged and confessed the Lord as God (I Kgs.18:39).
13. All the prophets of Baal were taken and slain (I Kgs.18:40).
14. Elijah’s prayer and the rain (I Kgs.18:41-46).
Moral
Elijah’s prayer was answered because he believed in and obeyed the commandments of the living God. Likewise, if we believe the Lord and keep His commandments, we also will receive answers to all our prayers.
